RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL
(bt teligkaf::.—speciacorrespondent.) Marten, October 4. The monthly mooting of tho Rangitikei County Council was held at Marton 011 Saturday. Tho Treasury wrote advising payments of loans of £100 for Tennent's Road and £140 for Snellgrovo's Road, and stating that an application for a loan of £500 for Maungahoo Road had boon cancelled. Tho Kiwitea County Council sent a letter agreeing to the apportionment of heavy traffic license fees, and the engineer, Mr. Mair, is to confer with the engineer of tho Kiwitea Council on this matter. ■ • The Minister 'for Railways wroto stating that representations made in connection with tho Vinogat Hill railway crossing will receivo consideration. Mr: W. T. Galpin waited on tho council to urge ins application for metalling on portions of Ngaruru Road. It was agreed to call tenders for this work at once. The engineer, Mr. Mair, complained that nothing appeared on the Estimates for the Rangitikei Bridge or the Tailiape-Otuarei Road—two very urgent-..works, /The chairman said that £38,000 appeared in tho Estimates for the llaugitikei electorate, but only £6345 was allocated for works in Rangitikei County.. It was reported that plans and specifications had been completed for the bridge over tho Kawhatau River at Potaka Road crossing, and tho council. should be in a position to accept tenders about the end of this month. Application is to be made to tho Treasury for a loan of £600 to provido a portion of tho cost'of-'construction of this bridge, and a special rating area was defined to provido interest. The engineer reported that ho had at last received,a definite refusal from the Railway Department to the application he made for gates across the railway line below Rata. It was decidcd to ask the Minister for Native Affairs to iio© his influence with the railway authorities to obtain a crossing to give 'this access to tho Native owners at Rata. Inspector Thoms reported that the contractors aro making good progress with formation of streets in Marton Extension township, and if fine weather continues this work will soon be completed. Tho chairman, Mr. R. K. Simpson, received a hearty vo'to of thanks for liis efforts- 011 tho two recent deputations to Wellington on county matters. 1 • The council recorded its appreciation of Mr. I'ryor's valuable services to local bodies in connection with tho labourers' dispute. The question of taking over a portion of Wanganui County Was again brought forward, and tho council resolved that upon' the Wanganui County Council agreeing to hand over the portion of AVanganui County as previously defined the Rangitikei Councilwill agree that Mr. W. E. Morgans's property, Sections 2 and 4, Blocks XI and XII, Mangawhero, be handed over to the Wan-, ganui County. The chairman and Councillors M'Grogor and Canton wore empowered to arrange details. The council resolved to protest to the Government against being saddled with the cost of providing access to Marton railway station from the eastern side, considering, this work was a colonial Undertaking which ought to be provided for out of the Consolidated Revenue.
