FEATHERSTON.
Thero were four births, no deaths, and two marriages in Fcatherston during September. Tho Fcatherston Dairy Company on Friday railed 100 cases of cheese for shipment in the lonic, which sails on Thursday. The local riflo volunteers held their first annual military social on Thursday evening, when there was' a large attendance, visitors being present from Carterton and Masterton. Tno interior of the hall was tastefully dccorated with nikau palms and military appliances. Mrs. A. Burt (piano), Messrs. W. Sorensen (violin), and C. Burt (cornet), provided tho music. Extras were played'by Misses Wakelin, Vilcs, Davison, Mesdames Wickens, and Burt. Messrs. G. Walker and J. Hyland carried out tho duties of M.C.'s. Dr. and Mrs. Palmer left here on Thursday for Melbourne, whore tho doctor will attend _ the Australa siau Medical ' Congress. Dr. "Withers, late of the Christchurch Hospital, will act as locum tenons during Doctor Palmer's absence. Tho first round for Mr. M. N. Hardio's trophy was played on Thursday .afternoon by . the ladies of the local golf club. Miss Viles (86), topped tho list, Mrs. Lucas (88), second, and Mrs. Speedy (91), third. The annual meeting of tho local Defence Rifle Club was held on Friday evening, Mr. W. Benton presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet, showing a credit of £3 os. Bd., wero read and adopted. It was resolved to continuo the club, and tho following officers •were elected:—President, Mr. J. 0. Bidwill; vice-presidents, Messrs. A.. Matthews, T. Benton, and W. Hume; captain, T. Benton; vice-captain, Mr. AY. Wakely; management committee, Messrs. E. Bockett, R. Parker, H. Williams, J. V. Reed, and H. Matthews; rango committee, Messrs. T. Benton, Wakely, and H. Williams; secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. C. Everton; auditor, Mr. E. H. Saunders; handicap committee, Messrs. Everton, T. and W. Benton. Tho subscription was fixed at 7s. 6d and it was resolved to hold a championship match at the end of the season. It -was resolved to open tho season on October 12. Commencing on .Wednesday, a rural postal service to Wniorongomai will leavo Fcatherston bi-weekly. The service will carry pasSo m? ors ' Tait is tho contractor. Tho death occurrcd on Friday afternoon of Mrs. Isabella Laundy, at tho ago of 75 years. Deceased was a native of Scotland and arrived in New Zealand in 1860. She was twico married, and leaves a family of six. Tho interment takes iriaco in Dannevirko. '
