OTAKI

A meeting of the Otaki Eoad Board was held on Saturday, Warden Jonos presiding.' A letter was read from Mr. W. M. Simcox, ofloring land for a road from Mill Road to within a few chains of Jubilee Road, and therefore asked that tho board secure tho remaining portion from Mr. Gooding. : It was decided to interview that gentleman on the subject, and if possible secure enough land for tho remainder of tho road. A steady rain, which was needed, fell"here on Saturday, and being of a mild liaturo, will do a deal of good. Grass is plentiful, howover, and as a member at the road board mooting remarked, "Wo won't bo able to find our stock if tho grass continues to grow as at present." At tho S.M. Court on Thursday afternoon, a case of considerable importance to farmers was discusscd, when Gerald George Tolhurst, farmer, of Otaki, claimed from Frank T. Moore, stockdealcr, of Jolinsonvillo, the sum of £100 for breach of warranty over the salo of 258 sheep, which

plaintiff alleged ho bought for empty owes, but which ultimately proved in lamb. Plaintiff claimed that he had used his best land for grazing purposes, ho being desirous of securing "tats," and had been forced to sacrifice bullocks 011 account of tho sheep. Defendant stated ho gave no guarantee that the sheep wero empty, but had ascertained from tho owner that no rams, to his knowledge, had been with the ewes. Damages were awarded to the extent of £20 with Court costs £1 65., witnesses' expenses £2 as., and solicitor's fees £2 12s. Mr. Neave appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. Kirk for defendant. A charge of procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order was preferred against Thomas Ayrc, who was fined 10s. and costs 75., while Frank Rumsey was fined' £1 and costs 75.,' on each of three charges for similar offences. For supplying liquor to the Shove-named, John Hirst, George Rundlo, and Honi Tawharo were mulcted in lines. For driving at night without lights, John Smith was fined 2s. and costs 7s. It is probable that several M.P.'s will spend the week-end at Waikane.
