Forty-fivo dual desks, of a design similar to those in use in the technical schools under tho supervision of the Otago Education Board, aro to installed in tho new Seddon Memorial Technical School. Tho tender of Messrs. Coradine and Whittaker at £66 7s. 6d. 'lias been accepted for tho supply of woodwork for tho desks. Tho arrangements for the opening "of the school aro still somewhat indefinite owing to tho inability of his Excellency the Governor to give a definite reply as yet, to the invitation to bo present at the opening ceremony.- A date early in November is suggested, for the opening. A sufficient number of candidates for this year's New Zealand _ University examinations will be forthcoming to ensure a sitting being held in Masterton. The new technical 'school will be used for tho examinations. The' rainfall at Wangaehu for tho month of September was 1.90 inches. Since January 1 of this year 31.41- inches have fallen, which is over D inches . below tho average for the corresponding period for 27 years, and no fewer than 22 inches below the first nino months of last year. The removal of the carbonising plant of the municipal gas works from its present site to the one near the railway station, over which the council acquired a right somo time ago,, has boon considerably 'retarded owing to tho delay of tho Government in gazetting the dedication of the new site, which' is part of that land at the western end oi the borough known as the Bishop's reserve. Tho delay has also boon responsible for tho postponement of several urgent improvements to tho existing works, which have been deferred since the decision of the council to remove to the new site. As tho rosult of correspondence between tho council and Government, it is now expccted that tho dedication will be gazetted this week) and this being so the preliminary arrangements. aro ■ being mado for tho erection of the now plant. Tho work will have to bo accelerated to bo completed ' before next winter. ' Mr.' Jabez Bridges, tho organiser for tho No-License League, is announced to speak in various portions of tho electorate on tho No-License question during this month. Mr. T. E. Taylor, of Christchurch, will lecture on the same subject at tho Masterton Town Hall. • Mr. George Coghill, of tho Duncdin branch of the Union Bank of Australia, is at present acting as manager of tho Masterton branch, owing to Mr. A. B. Lawrcnco, tho permanent manager, being absent in Gisborno on relieving duty.
