LADIES' REPRESENTATIVE MATCH. WELLINGTON (4) V. WANGANUI (0). A largo number of peoplo made tho trip in tho Duchess on Saturday afternoon to witness tho ladies' representative match, Wanganui v. Wellington, on No. 2 ground, Day's Bay. Wellington walked off victorious by four goals to nil. They showed better knowledge of.tlio gamo in all departments, tlioir experience in the recent tournament having evidently aided their play. In tlio first twenty minutes, Miss Doughty passed to Miss J. Tavendalej wJio centred quickly, and Miss M'lntosli was enabled to 6core. Before the spell ended, Miss Lawry netted Wellington's sccond goal from a scramble. In tho latter half, Wanganui briglitened up, and instituted some dashing rushes, Misses Jones and Laird being prominent, and, had it not been for the sound defenco of Miss Gear, they would have scored several times. Towards the end, Wellington scored twice in rapid succession, Misses Cox, and Glasgow being responsible for the additions. The game was not of exceptional interest, and neither sido gavo a good display. Mr. H. _V. Walton refcreed. Tho visitors return North this morning. MEN'S HOCKEY. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. Tho men's senior championship matches were continued tinder perfect weather conditions at Day's Bay on Saturday afternoon. Karori, having defaulted to Victoria College, have still 18 points, but United have now 23, Victoria Collego 14, Vivian 13, Wesley 12, Wellington and Y.M.C.A. 10 each, and Thorndon nil. The only alteration in position is that Wesley have jumped into fifth place. Tho only effect of continuing tho matches will bo to decide tho oAler of merit, but as far as is known at present, the round will bo completed,' tho final games being set down for October 3. Next Saturday is Dominion Day, and if the Manawatu representatives do not como down on that date (no reply lias yet been received), tlio championship matches will be played as usual. Tho proposed visit to Nolson has been declared off, as it was found impossible- to get a team together. Tho following are Saturday's results:— WESLEY (6) v. Y.M.C.A. (4). . The Wesley and Y.M.C.A". representatives met on No. 1 Ground, tlio former winning by six goals to four. The.positions of somo-of the Y.M.C.A. players wore changed, and three juniors were promoted; this seemed to liayo tho effect of giving them excellent combination. Y.M.C.A. showed more dash than their opponents, and kept them steadily on the dofensivo at first. Tho yellows were penalised for obstruction in the circle, their opponents got tho better of tho bully, and the Y.M.C.A. goalkeeper was forced to kick behind. Tho backs saved well from tho resultant corner hit. A. Parton took the ball well up tho field 'and passed to Carde, who was thus enabled to score for Y.M.C.A. Immediately afterwards A. Parton cleverly piloted tlio ball into the net, making tho score.two to nil. Wesley, then instituted a pretty passing rush, but tho goalkeeper savod well. Wesley reasserted themselves, and after sharp scramble at tho posts Curgonwen opened Wesley's scoring account. A moment later A. Parton added another to the Y.M.C.A. total, making the figures three to one. Wesley's opportunity came agkin, and Birch was successful in finding the net. Even s pla,v ensued for a while, and from a rush A. Parton scoi-od again for Y.M.C.A. With tho change of ends Wesley took up the offensive, tho Y.M.C.A. defence going to pieces. Wesley added four to' their total, scored by Curgenwsh (2) and Smith (2). Tho Rev. A. Dewdney carried the whistle.
VIVIAN .(4) v. WELLINGTON (0). • Vivian beat Wellington by'l to nil on No, 3 Ground. Tho game was not interesting. In tho first spell . Thompson scored 4 for Vivian after a prolonged scramblo at the posts. Wellington failed to Score through poor shooting, and their attacks were ably staved off by Sanders in tho Vivian goal. Tho latter half was in Vivian's favour, but they found the defence very sound, Schulev being especially good. Wellington seemed to slacken off towards the finish, and Vivian scored three goals, Thompson securing two and Dunn the other. Mr. Carver was the referee. UNITED (8) v. THORNDON (3). The game between United and v Thorndon oil No. 4 Ground was of a very patchy nature, United showing tho littlo combination possible on such a bumpy ground. Organ opened Unitcd's account and was joined by .Elliott, Birkett (5), and Holhs. Thorndon played throe outsidersMurphy and Pearn (Karori) and Beere (Victoria College). Their goals were scored by S. Sloane (2) and Murphy. Thorndon had sevoral shots, but they were nullified by Hickson and' P. Ashbolt, who soon sent tho leather to tho other end. Beere and Pearn, playing in unaccustomed places as. full-backs, saved well oil several occasions. Mr. Southwick held tho whistle.
