PETONE NEWS.
The united firo brigades of I'ctono held a very succcssful danco on Friday night in tho drillshed, about 120 couples being present. Tho Mayor, Mr. M'Ewan, as chairman of tho firo board, gave Superintendent Lopper and Firemen Rose and Shardlaw 2years' servico bars, also medals for 5-years' service to Firemen Lusty, Adams, and SelWood. A programme of 24 dances was then fully enjoyed by those present, extras being played by Mrs. Mothes and Miss Battersby. Songs wore contributed by Mr. Evans, Mr. and Mrs* Ridge, Miss Russell, Mrs. 'Ash, Mr. Coulton, and Mrs. M'Ewan. The M.C.'s wero Messrs. Hamilton, Moss, and Adams. Tho refreshments were looked after by a committee, Mr. Cruickshank being secretary. Tho Citizens' Baud gavo tho following items' from Mr. Hollard's balcony:—March, "Pedestrian"; waltz, "Will-o'-the-Wisp"; two-step, "Clorinda"; march, "Vanguard"; selection,. "Melbourno by Night"; march, "Dundeo Nnvals." 1 ' A large number of people listened to them from i tho street. Mr. Hollard afterwards provided the band with supper. Tho No-License Leaguo held an open-air meeting in Fotono on Saturday night, Mr. Wright speaking to a very fair-s'ized audieuce.
