BOXING.
MANAWATU BOXING ASSOCIATION. The Manawatu Boxing Association is to bo congratulated on the excellent programme they intend to place beforo'their patrons in October. In addition to the Tracy-Hollo return match (which is already creating a lot of interest), five teams will compoto for tlio Manawatu Challenge Cup and trophies. The second night's programmo will consist of the finals for the Cup, also a display by tlio James Brothers, from Now Plymouth, who created a. favourable impression by their scientific display of four rounds at tlio last tourney; and, lastly, a six two-minute round contest betweon Ben Tracy, the wellknown Wellington bantam, and W. Shields, of Palmerston North, who put up such a splendid contest with Kerr at the recent Wellington provincial championship meeting. Shields was also tlio winner" in the. bantam class at Levin last week. The men will box at Bst. 91b., and the prize is'a five-guinea trophy, or an open ordor and all expenses paid. Mr. I. J. Fake has been appointed referee for the tournament. Tho Manawatu Association are training a team of four men to compete at tho Taranaki contest this month, and paying a.U expenses. The West Coast Boxing Association meeting 011 Saturday night was largely attended, and the boxing was of a high standard.- The professional bout between J'. Griffon, of Aritikfii, and W. Parker, of Dunedin, was won by Griffon- in five rounds, Parker retiring owing to an injury to his arm. Griffon had tho best of tho contest right through.
