A BAPTIST CONVERT.
An interesting ceromon.V was performed at Ekuiczer Baptist Chapel, Bacup, in the presenco of a largo congregation on August 2, when Mr. J. E. Bottoms was baptised b.v the Rov. F. Overend into tho Bsptist ministry. Mr. Bottoms has for tho past eighteen months been at Christ Clmrch, Bacup, under tho Rov. J. S. Doxey, and he has left tho Church of England to tako up the pastorate of the Mount Zion
Baptist Chapel, Edgeside, Newchurch-in-Rossendalo, where be is at present ministering. His _ decision and appointment have created widespread interest in religious circles. Mr. Bottoms has explained that since coming to' Bacup ho had learned to read the Scriptures in tno original tongue, and ho found that the word " baptise" was from the Greek " baptiao," and that the word had not been translated, but it had been transliterated, and then transferred with a very slight modification into the Englbh Bible. Ho found that it meant "to dip, to plunge into, or immerse," and for the first time in his ljfe he was convinced that baptism by dipping or immersion was Christian baptism.
