Sir Robert Ball is about t.ho only astronomer who lias ever been able to get fun out of the mysteries of the universe. His popular lectures are always bright and amusing, and his declaration that "daylight, from an astronomer's point of view, is"altogether a mistake " is good enough to be as famous as Sydney Smith's criticism of a man "who was " irreverent enough to speak disrespectfully of the Equator."
