TOWN BELT BILL.
< *—■ A mooting of the Management Committee of tho Wellington-Lawn Tennis Association was held last- evening, when the proposed petition ■ against tho Bill at present before Parliament was discussed. Ihe Committee were of tho opinion that tha opposition was ill-advised as far as the Tennis Association's requests for leases were concerned. The two sites applied for were situate near the top of the Botanical Gardens (on tho old haulingeugino site) and in Leraud Street. Both pieces of ground were at presont little frequented, and wore necessarily littlo cared for. Thero were adjacent splendid recreation reserves in the; Botanical Gardens and Newtown Park, and while the construction of tennis courts on tho_ sites mentioned would not | materially diminish these recreation resorts it would provide sport for a large number of both sexes who were unable to obtain sites fpr their games. The following motion was moved by Mr. Rcdward, seconded by Mr, Fair, and carried unanimously:—"That this committee, recognising that the future of lawn tennis | in Wellington depends on the passing of tho Wellington (City) Town Belt Reserves Leasing Bill, co-operato_ with other amateur sports bodies in taking stops by deputation or othorwiso to secure tho passing of tho Bill which enables portions of the Town Bolt to bo leased for recreation purposes.'' The committee were agreed on tho necessity for prompt action in bringing the Bill before the Local Bills Committee, and apppintod_ Messrs. Redwood, Beore, Kimball, and Fair as delegates to co-oporato with the other sports bedie3 in forwarding this objeot.
