AGRICULTURAL APPLIANCES.
INCREASE IN PRICES. CBT TELEOUiI'n—FRESS ASSOCIATION,) Christchurch, September 16. Inquiries instituted among various local implement manufacturers to-uav confirmed the report that an increase in the price of the principal lines of agricultural appliances mado here is. to he enforcod about the beginning of next month, when tho different makers' catalogues are issued. The rise is not due to any concerted action on the part of the firms concerned, but is rather the outcoma of a genoral feeling entertained by individual makers that something must he'done to recoup themselves for the increased oiitr lay demanded by the enhanced cost of raff material and the additions to their pay rolls imposed by recent awards of tha Arbitration Court. In both of these directions the outgoings • of implement manufacturers have marked a substantial advance upon the necessary expenditure of even twelve months ago. Each firm appears to be acting independently of tho others in the matter, as tho increases of prices to be instituted vary considerably in different instances.' 'Standard lines, such as ploughs, harrows, etc., are to be mado-to bear tho chief burden, but over the whole range of articles selected for an increased selling price the riso will not average _6 per cent. Five per cent, has been added in some cases and 2} per cent, in others, while many lines are unaltered.
