THE WAIRARAPA SHOW.
A FIRST-,CLASS PROGRAMME. ' Tho programme of the thirty-first annual •show of the Wairarapa and East- 'Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society, which is just being issued to breeders and farmers (writes our Wairarapa correspondent), is an interesting memento of the enterprise, and enthusiasm which are at present marking the efforts of that organisation. The pro'gramme outlined for this season constitutes the greatest eifort in this direction ever made by the society. ' The' prizo ntoney has been increased to £1100,. ajid all classes are liberally, supplied. . A notable point about] the'programme, is' the interest which been doyoted' to the cheese'section. A'portion 'of tho Wairarapa'| is; wholly deydt'M'%6" tffis branch of an important primary industry, there being n( fewor than eight _ca-.opaca.tixe—lactones, without counting those who make privately. In the four checso classes,: tho society is offering prize money aggregating £40 2s. 6d. The' principal class carries with it prizes amounting to £16, and in another class, m which the cheese has-: to-;, bo-■ judged and graded at tho show arid then_ again,in London, the opportunity for a fair,, straight-out, test is one hardly, likely to be missed ibjf. tho principal makers ..of. .the Island. It is fair _tc attune that," as "a reward for .the enterprise of the society in this' direction, the cheese exhibits will bo one'of the distinct features of the show. " ' The society has also inaugurated a championship butter-fat competition on somewhat similar lilies to that carried out at Palmerston North, and this also shows a further'recognition of the dairying industry. . . ... The prize money in all. tho stock clause c is most liberal, and,' in addition, the .Quibell and Douglas challenge cups - are given for open competition in Lincoln, and Southdown .sheep respectivelv. Tho hunter's challenge cup, valued at £25,. is one of the prizes in the principal jumping event, and challenge cups, presented by the Trustees of the late Mr. D M'Master, of Matawhero, and ?Ir. W. E.
