ENTERTAINMENTS.

"THE FATAL WEDDING." "The Stepmother" terminated its run last night at the Opera House to an excellent house. Commencing with a matinee this afternoon, the management announce a big farewell revival of tho well-known "Fatal Wedding" drama, tho run terminating on Wednesday night next. It is somo time sinco this popular play was presented in tho city, and the feature of tho present production is said to bo the excellent cast engaged. _ Mr. Ernest Leicester will play Howard Wilson, and Miss Beatrice Holloway, Mabel Wilsotu The child part, Jessio (tho little mother), will bo played by Miss Queouie Williams. Other parts will be in the safe hands of Misses C. 11. Stanford, George Carey, F. Coapo, E. G. Coughlin, etc., and Mosdawes Ida Gresham and Marion Norman. The children of the -Tincau Band will appear onco more to delight all beholders. Special musical numbers will bo introduced by Maggio Dickenson, Gladys Bancroft, Daisy Meiuloza, and Donald Cameron. Tho story of tho play is so well known to the public of tho city that it is not. necessary to refer to it here. Tho box plan is at the Dresden, and from two o'clock at Abel's, tobacconist, where dav sales aro procurable. For the matinee tliis afternoon a special tariff is announced. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. One of the most delightfully funnv pictures yet exhibited at His Majesty's Theatre, is tho "Merry Widow Waltz Craze." It depicts a man suffering from tho craze so badly that he insists on dancing anywhere and everywhere—in tho theatre, at "break-; fast, and in the street. The world is a dancing hall for him, and ereryone he meets is a merry widow. Tho picture is only one of a varied assortment, grave and gay, calculated to suit everybody's kinematographic tasto. A grand matinee performauco for children will bo given this afternoon, when tho same programme of pictures will be shown as is to bo presented at the ovening performance. THE BURNS—SQUIRES BATTLE. Tho kinematograph representation of the Bums-Squires fight attracted another crowded house to tho Theatre Royal last ovening, and it is safe to say that boforo the season closes a very largo section of the malo population of Wellington will be able to say that tlioy havo witnessed tho fight. Thoy can say so with a fino circumstantial air of truth, for tho picture is really an admirable one, so realistic indeed that, many in last evening's audience became excited enough to urge their favourites on to victory. "Punch''him",'Bill," yelled one auditor in his excitement, and another urged Burns to " Cut in and finish him." Burns is danciiig round tho Australian tho whole time, keeping the bigger man backing until ho has to hit out to get foot room. The American is deadly in his prancing aggressiveness, and a wonderfully, clever infighter. Thero is a great deal of clinching throughout, and in some rounds the referee, who is in tho ring, is seen breaking between the men continuously. Another animated view shown represented tho opening of tho Olympic _ sports and a series of pictures of the national teams competing in the calisthenic competitions. Thero aro also a number of pictures in lighter vein to give variation to what is an excellent picture show. SCOTTISH LOWLANDS SOCIETY. A concert and dance, under the auspices of tho Scottish Lowlands Society, was hold last night in tho New Century Hall. The concert programmo was, a. very varied and on-, joyablo one, comprising .songs, dances,, and recitations. Master Worth sang "Hear tho Pipers Calling" very creditably. Other contributors to tho harmony of the ovening we're Messrs. J. Charles (song), J. Baillio (pipo selection), M'Laron (recitation), W. E. lfoyd (danco), J. H. M'Lean (song), J. M'Lean (song), Alec. Hill (song), T. Jaffray (dance), G. A. Watkins (songs), Mrs. Collins (song), Miss Walsh (dance), ..Miss .Hall-Kenny (song)', Mrs. Hcarn ' (song),,.' Ai (lan'deV.iwis! tholi held, the M.G.'s being Messrs. R. D. Johnson and J. Smart. Miss Hawthorn supplied the music. MR. CHARLES SAUNDERS. / The. two farewoll concerts to be hold in conjunction with the Wellington Choral Society will take place on Wednesday and Friday noxt at tho Town Hall. Mr. Saunders, says an exchange, has immensely benefited by the rost and change of air lie enjoyed at Rotorua, and his concerts in Auckland wero as triumphant a success artistically as they were financially satisfactory. Tho famous tenor was in splendid voice, and aroused' such scenes of enthusiasm as, have probably raroly been, experienced.at any concerts, save those, at which ho sang some twelve or thir-. toon years since, and > at tho ever-memorabio recitals of Madame' Dolores. The box plan is now open at the Dresden. SUNDAY CONCERT. Under the auspices of the Ramblers Football Club, which desires to assist a distressed member of the club, a sacred concert, in which Miss May Driscoll' (contralto), Mr. Ernest Parkes (baritone), and tho Wellington Professional Orchestra will participate, will bo given in tho Opera House to-morrow ovening at 8 o'clock. On September 24 tho Wellington Professional Orchestra will givo their first popuar concert in tho Opera' House. Tho musicloving public of Wellington is by this time acquainted with tho orchestra and tho excellence of its ontcrtainmcnts, testified to by itlie largo audicnces assembled at tho Town Hall at tho three sacred concerts already given by this body. Encouraged by' its past success, the Professional Orchestra wishes to iDcroaso its music library, and the proceeds of tho forthcoming concert will bo dovotcd to that purpose. In addition to instrumental items of a high-class character, together with compositions of a more popular nature, two well-known vocalists will assist, the whole forming a programmo which should appeal to all tastes. Skaters aro reminded that the . Olympia Rink closes down for tho season after this evening. '
