Business in tho township has been what may be considered decidedly dull during the latter part of the week, the town having had on mOro days than ono. Quito a deserted appearance. Hamilton, who has been for a number of years superintendent of tho Sunday school. Dnring • the evening Mr. Hamilton was tho recipient of addressos from the Anglican'congregation and the pupils of tho Sunday /school, together with a useful travelling clock. At Malcari the local residents, at an enthusiastic/meeting, decided to hold a bazaar in aid of the fuuds of tho Public Hall. I . LEVIN. As far as ono can judge at present, tho boxing contest that is to be held in September, under the auspices of the Horowhenua Boxing Association, promises to bo a groat success. Dr. Napier M'Lean is to bo asked to act as referee for all the classes. Tho new infant schoolroom in' connection with tho local State School, has now been completed, and is being tenanted by the children. At Friday's meeting of the local school committee, the Chairman moved that tho committee record a voto of sympathy with Mr. C. Palmer, who met with a serious accident that day. Mr. Palmer was' loading strainer posts at Prouso Bros.' mill,- when one of them slipped back on the pile crushing two of his fingers so severely that tho doctor cannot; tell yet whether he'will bo ablo to savo thom. : ' A meeting of tho Lovin Domain Board was held on Friday, whon there wero present Messrs. P. Stewart (chairman), J, Prouso, M. Fosella, and W. C. Nation. Correspondence was read from Mr. N. Kirk'calclie, agreeing to givo up part of tho land leased by him close to tho lake on condition that the' Board fcnco it in and plant trees on't. A letter was received from the Under-Secre-tary of tho Laiids Department stating that, through absenting themselves from meetings, several members had ceased to bo members, and asking if tho present number (five) was sufficient to • carry on tho business of tho Board. The Chairman promised to visit Feilding to select trees to plant on tho property given up by Mr. Kirkcaldie. It was decided to ask several other gentlemen to act on the Board. The tender of Mr. J. M'Tag- ■ gart for fencing at ISs. 9d. per chain was accepted.
