There is no confirmation yet, for the report, as published by The Dominion, that Otago players in the proposed Otago-Southland match are to got £3 guarantee—in fact , the majority favour the amateur idea with payment for loss of wages. Should nothing stop the tour Southland can put in a very warm team, and the following is not an.unlikely thirteen:' —Backs: Fraser (Brits), Hanna (Southland, 1906), Beaton (Pirates), Reid (Southland, 1907), Sherbournc (Brits), Forde (Waikiwi), Burgess (Now Zealand, 1905). There is a probability of Coleman being played at wing-forward, Rothery going in the scrum, and Frewin taking Coleman's place at • half-back.. Either Crowley or Pukoro will probably stand down from the forwards, whilst Buckland has not yet played in representative football, though twico picked as first emergency. Oamai'u, August 13. The football match North Otago v. Ellesmere was played to-day in fine weather and on a good ground. The local men were superior to tile visitors in every department hut scrum work, and won by 16 points to 3. For tho winners King obtained a try, which iVas not converted. Ross obtained a try and converted, and also place-kicked a gaol, while Taylor obtained a try and Ross converted. For the losers Scott obtained a try which was not converted. WANCANUI M. TARANAKI JUNIORS. (B'i TELEGRAPH—PIIESS ASSOCIATION'.) Wanganul, August 13. The Wanganui. and Taranaki Junior representative match was plaved this afternoon in glorious weather, 'fhe teams were very even, and a close and interesting contest resulted in a win for Wanganui by 14 to 13.
