NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTED The Management Committeo Of tho New Zealand Rugby Union met) last night. Thero were present:—Mr. G. Dixon (in!tho chair), and Messrs. R. M. Isaacs, N. Galbraith, F. J.' Wallburton, G; Laurerison, H, Kelly, and E. Wylie. , Tho Taranaki Union intimated that it had advised Auckland that tho match between the .unions on August 29 would be for tho Ranftirly Shield.
j .An appeal against suspension was received through the Southland Union from a player, who was ordered off the' field during a match between Pirates and'Waikiwi for paving allegedly disputed the referee's ruling aiid used insulting language. The player said/that' any remark-which he might havo jitiado was directed -towards another player, and not towards the referee. It was decided to reply that the appeal was not in order, as it had not been lodged within the stipulated time.
The Hawke's Bay Union wrote with reference to the presentation of a challenge shield to the.Poverty Bay Union for competition. between the union and l the Hastings sub-union, which is under their jurisdiction. It. considered that the Poverty Bay Union should, not havo. accepted tho trophy without having first obtained its sanction. The Poverty Bay Union had stated that it expected tho Hastings sub-union would apply 'to the' Hawke's Bay Union for permission, to play for tho shield. The Committee decided to reply to tho Hawke's Bay Union that, as the Hastings sub-union was under its control, any question arising between them should be dealt with according to its own rules.
i The Wairarapa Union forwarded a letter from .Sergeant Miller, of. Mastorton, who stated that he had beon served .with a writ for £200 damages from J. Kennedy in connection with an incident which "occurred at (lie 1 Anglo-Welsh-Wairarapa match. The grounds of the claim wore stated to bo shortly as follows Plaintiff paid for admission to the ground and grand stand. Ho took a seat in, the stand on which there was no notice of reservation, and now holds that he was tho licensee of it' by reason of payment'and possession. Defendant, it was alleged without any right, _ title, or lawful authority, assaulted plaintiff, dragged him from His seat with great personal violence in t tho presence of some thousands of people, tliereby causing'him personal injury and defamation of character. Sergeant Miller added that tho case would come on for hearing dn August 21. The New Zealand Union had previously decided to defend any action which might bo brought against the sergeant. -

The player-'ad-mitted having.used the language complained o£ but urged.that he did-so in the "neat of the moment."
