The volunteers' annual.social took placo on Wednesday, but was not attended as well, as on past occasions. The hall had been, tastefully decorated with coloured paper chains and bunting, and ii great improvement was the installation' of the" town' gas. _ Mr. Savage's'String'band supplied the music. Miss Reid!s,resignation has been, accepted by theJPiepiion Board. Her departure from the school, will bo generally regretted. Mr." JVr Ebbett is managing the Papatawa school on behalf, of. the Board. No committee ,would- ; stand on account of disagreeing with the Board's actions, hence their asking Mr. Ebbett to look after'things. At Wednesday -night's meeting of the school committee, the question of purchasing a piano came up, and considerable debato followed on the advisability of securing a British-made instrument. Eventually, the vote was in favour of the British instrument, and the order was placed with Mr. "Woolhouse.- .
