PROVINCIAL NEWS.
(FROM OUR SPECIAL O ; PALMERSTON. Owing to the recent fino weather, food sliows a decided improvement. It is tho intention of somo flax-millers to reopen within tho next few weeks. A number of mill hands are now in town.
At the Hospital Board meeting yesterday the matron reported 41 patients ill the hospital on July 1; admitted during month, 36; discharged,.'l4; in.on August 1, 33. Accounts amounting to £508 16s. 9d. wero passed for payment. C. E. Harden, solicitor, was before tho Court yesterday charged with tho theft of £260, the property of Margaret Martha Hancock, and was remanded to appear on August 21. Bail was fixed at £200, and two sureties of £100. ; An elderly man named John Spencer was charged at the Police Court yesterday mornring with failure to keep up the payments for the maintenance of his child, an inmate of an industrial school. He was remanded till Saturday to bo dealt with by the Stipendiary Magistrate. Local .Chinese gardeners are reaping a good harvest out of Wellington at present bv forwarding large consignments of vegetables.
