During tho evening songs, recitations, and speeches were indulged. in, an abundance of refreshments being served by the host and his relatives. Tho gathering terminated shortly before midnight; lho ltev. Cecil Smith, vicar of St. John's Church (Anglican), Trenthani, who is leaving cs i sh ° rtl y> ,vas agreeably surprised on Sunday afternoon last, when the- littla Sunday School scholars of his Silrerstream class presented him with a fountain pen, bookmark, and other articles. ■ The Phoenix Lodge of Good Templars held us weekly session at the Lower Hutt on ruesday night Tho lodge was opened by Bro. Wesim, C.T., and there was a fair attendance of members. Tho following contributed towards the programme Sister Seagar, recitation; Sister Batchelor, songBro. T. Wesim, song; 8r0.., Brattle, song! The lodge was closed in due' form bv Bro Wesim, C.T V at 9.30. p.m.. Mrs. Harrison Leo addressed tho workmen at Petone workshops during midday meal yesterday, dealing with physical deterioration through alcoholism, etc. During' the afternoon Mrs. Leo addressed a meeting of women in St. Augustine's Hall, Petone, and the meetings were concluded by an address, "Brides of Many Nations," in tho Oddfellows' Hall. . His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presided over a well-filled hall. The brides' parts were taken by Miss B. Watkins , (English), Mrs. Fuller , (Norwegian), Miss Moran (Japanese), Miss Battersby (Eastern),. Miss G. .Watkins (Welsh), -Miss D. Wat Inns (Maori), Miss Bedda (Scotch), Mr. Watkins (bridegroom). Miss Kirk acted as pianist. A hearty vote of thanks was given to Mrs..Harrison ,Lee for tho. assistance in tho cause'of No-Licenso in. tin Hutt.
