THEOSOPHY.
Miss C. \V. Christie,' one of the organisers of-.the New Zealand section-of the Theosophical Society, gave an interesting lecture at the Society's room, Manners Street, last evening. The audience was keenly- interested in the subject: '"How" prayers are answered. 1 The speaker ' pointed out that prayers for: physical benefits sometimes brought disaster to the individual, insomuch that tho'- answer comes at 'a -time when the person has relinquished the 'idea. Theosophical teaching points out that'the prayers aro not answered directly from God, (but that the grades of intelligences above and below man had their necessary work to: perform' in carrying out the wishes of those who prayed. There is a great amount depending upon ; the sound of prayers, hence the-reason for using certain tones in praying. The lecturer said that'.if'wo "'were able to pray in Sanskrit we should, by means of the vibrations set up by sounds', effect cures in our bodies. There is a mechanism, in prayer, and the materialist, using 'the methods and observing tho necessary rules can work , the same effect as the devout Christian.'-Few-prayers - are as pointed . as jjthoso ,of the' mother. Several questions asked. The bost kind of prayers, to. offer tup was suggested to tho meeting.-..Things for self'musfc be ignored. Prayers were not ..always answered in one life. The answer.iinay be held over until a later -life.- "•
