MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL. At yesterday's meeting of the Manawatu County Council the treasurer reported the balances on tho various accounts as follow: —General account, dr., £3448 12s. Id.: loan account, cr., £713 9s. 2d.; net debit balance, £2735 2s. lid. Tho amounts available for expenditure in tho ridings to March 31, 1909, are as follow: Sandra £292 2s. 7d., .Mount Stewart £35 6s. 9d., Waitolii £207 Is. lid., Rongotea £197. 13s. 7d., Carnarvon £212 17s. 5d.. Kawakawa £370 13s. 4d., Awah'ou £125 10s. 9d., Whirokino £26 Bs. " _ Tho overseer reported that: the tramway line has been overhauled between Himitangi arid Whale Line siding, and the men aro now employed at the weak places putting in sleepers and putting the line in order between Whale siding and Rosina. Tho other gang have been working on tho length between Sanson land Rongotea siding. The line in thp gravel pit is out of order, and 1 have instructed the men to pull up a portion of the rails into the pit as far a,s possible and relay it. Mr., S. George has commenced his,contract for removing a portion of goods-shed and will havo tho work completed in a few days. _ Councillor Wilson was appointed to represent the Council on tho Drainage Commission.
Councillor Wilson was also appointed to appear before the Arbitration Court in 'connection . with, tho. general labourers' dispute. It was decided to apply for an additional loan. 0f.£600 for drainage works on the Kaikokopu lake.
