OTAKI.
A strenuous gamo of football was tho outcome of tho Levin-Kia Toa (Otaki) match, played on Saturday. Levin had tho best of tho first spell,- and put in somo fine work, but tho defensive play. was sound. Immediately on opening tho second spell, Otaki scored a sensational try, the Coates (3) carrying the ball from within a' few yards of their own line through tho opposing combination, and scoring. Shortly after G. Cook scored a clever try, and later put another score t-o his credit, the gamo ending three tries (all unconverted) to a try (nicely scored by M'Kenzie, after a fino run) in Otaki's favour.
The Manakau and Hni Mai Ladies' Hockey Clubs a.ro sending a combined -team t-o Wellington shortly to play tlio members of. .the Gregg Shorthand Club and Victoria College. Mr. Fred. Carmont, now an inmate of the local hospital, has been successfully operated upon, and will probably bo well enough to leave tlio institution within a fortnight. Butter, and in many cases of an inferior quality, is being sold hero at Is. 6d per lb., and an upward rise is expected beforo the week end.
The Horowhenua representative footballers journey to Hawke's Bay on Friday, and will meet tho local TJnion the followin< r day. It is probablo that some of tho leading players will be unablo to go.
