YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION.
OPENING OF. THE NEW ROOM.
A social was held last , night by the .Y.W.O.A. to celebrate the opening of the Association's new room on Lambton Quay. The room is a very large, fino one of a sociable shapo, and- wit<h accommodation for over a hundred people. The. walls are already hung with . pictures. that : liave been ' presented by friends,, the room is partially furnished, and one end has been curtained off to serve as kitchen.': The windows look across Lambton Quay, and altogether, it is a very pleasant room either for lunching in or for spending a. busy or social evening. Last night Mrs. 'M'Clay, vice-president,' in the' absence of Miss Mac Lean, the president began the' ortning's programme with a little speech of welcome to the girls and.of grati-' tude- to' the friends' who had prepafpd the room for them. Liter 911 Mr. Ilercus, of tho Y.M.C.A., gave a short address of encouragement ; and to greater effort oil bohalf 1 of .their- Association than the' mem-bers-had yet. put forward. ■ » i : Tho Misses Pringle aild Tingey played a pianoforte duet, songs were given by Misses Cathie and Ilealey, ; and ! recitations by' Miss Dix and Miss May. Mason. Mrs. T. W. His- ■ lop,' in ■ a very happy speech, >: reminded tho girls that the, building up of the Association "depended 'on them ' more than bn anyone else.. ' She hoped they would keep steadily.in viow tile desire to .get a'building .as fino as that now possessed Dy. the Y.M.0.A,., .and that they would work towards that end! A hostel for young women was very urgently needed in Wellington', and she hoped it would not,-beVlong before the Y.W.C.A. were in a position to establish one.,
