GOLD IN THE UREWERA.
AN OPTIMISTIC PROSPECTOR. (DT TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAI. CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, July 31. A prospector writes:—l am confident that a, largo goldfielcl will bo opened up in the Urowera Country. Tliero aro plenty of 'largo roofs, well defined, carrying gold, that oiJy want to b- 0 'prospected, and opened up to provo their valuo. Alluvial gold is also to bo found, but this, I would say, is tlio outcorao of a reef that has become broken and worked down the streams, being deposited in tho alluvial gravels. Now that steps aro being takon to arrango with tho Natives t-o allow- their lands to bo thrown opou to prospectors, I am sure that before long tho Urowera and Lake Taupo country will bo a great gold field. Tho country is very rough and difficult to got through, and prospectors must bo prepared to put up with a lot of hardships. I may also say. that other valuable minerals aro to bo found in these districts, and beforo long somo very'rich finds will bo made in this direction;
