LIBERAL FINANCE. (BT TEL3C-EAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPniIOHT.) London, July 30. Discussing the Finance Bill in tho House of Lords, Lord St. Aldwyn (formerly Sir M. Hicks Beach, and an ox-Chancollor of tho Exchequer), attributed tho low price of con-, sols to the Government's attacks on property. Ho complained that tho Government displayed no financial foresight or prudcnco. The Earl'of Crewe (Secretary for., the Colonies) said that the Government thought indirect taxation was quito high enough. The country, he added, was quito able to pay for its defensivo services without melodramatic taxation.
