The " Daily Express" states that a Cabinet crisis—which threatened to cause the resignations of four Ministers, with, perhaps, tho entire Army Council —ended in the defeat of tho section which is desirous of reducing tho Army to the barest proportions. The supporters of Mr. Haldane (Secretary for War) gained a narrow majority. ministeria\ statement. AN INQUIRY BUT NO REDUCTIONS. London, July 21. In tho House of Lords, the Earl of Crewe, Secretary of State for tho Colonies, said that no further reductions in the, Army were contemplated by the Government. Lord Crewo added that tho Government wore making inquiry regarding general expenditure, but that the inquiry was not being confined to any one departmont.
