DINIZULU'S SALARY.
HOME GOVERNMENT WILL PAY IT. (by TELEOIiirn—rEESS ASSOCIATION—COPIRIGUT.) (Rcc. July 22, 11.55 p.m.) . London, July 22, Lieut.-Colonel Seely, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, states that tho Imperial Government has decided to pay Dinizulu's salary. A CHARGE AND A REPLY. Early in June the Secretary for tho Colonics (the Earl of Crowe) censured Natal for stopping Dinizulu's salary without Imperial assent. He declared that tlio stoppage was a breach of the conditions on which Dinizulu had been permitted to return to Zululand, and it had inflicted a hardship on the prisoner, who was also involved in much expense owing to prolongation of tho trial; but, inasmuch as legal points wero involved,.and tho matter had been referred to tho Supreme Court, its decision must bo. awaited. ■ . Natal contended that the arrest of Dmizulu as a Government induna, with a view to criminal proceedings, implied suspension from tho 'Government service, and tlio suspending of his salary. Imperial sanction to Dinizulu's removal from Zululand was interpreted as covering the suspension of his salary. Tho suspension was in accordance with the civil servico as regards either blacks or whites.
