! INTERESTING EXHIBITS. ' . Butterflies, blow pips, and tidal mysteries were discussed by a largo attendance of the Wellington Philosophical Society j at; the monthly meeting last evening. The President (Professor Kirk) ivas in the chair. Mr. A. Hamilton said that ho had received from his son about GOO specimens of butterflies, and moths' collected in a portion of the Queenstown district, where no previous sciontifie collection had been made. He exhibited a number of these specimens. Mr. Hamilton also exhibited the bones of the extinct n'ativo crow, found ' at "Long Beach, near Duncdin, to which reference was made in Tim Dominion recently. ' Another exhibit was . a blow. pipe, , used by tho aboriginal inhabitants of the Malay Peninsula for'puffing-poisoned darts at birds. Tho weapon was sent to Mr. Hamilton by Mr. George Lee, formerly of Westland, and now of Siam. The blow pipo was carefully examined by member's of tho Society, but nobody, cared to touch the darts. f Mr. J. W. Poyntoiij who was to have given an address .on " Variations in Breeding," was unable to: bo present, and tho address will bo a feature of next meeting.
