FLOODS IN CHINA.
MILLIONS HOMELESS: ASSISTANCE ASKED FOR. ST mZQEAPn—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYHIGni. Sydney, June 29. The editor of a Chinese paper in Sydney has been advised of disastrous floods in the Canton province. Immense damage was done to crops and property. ■ Whole villages were swept away. Many were drowned, and millions aro homeless. Assistance is asked; for. Floods seem to be fairly plentiful in China this year. In April, Han-kau, at the junction of the Han-kiang and the Yang-tso-kiang, suffered greatly, 2000 porsons being drowned and 700 junks sunk or wrecked. Tho floods on this occasion were due to a suddon freshet of remarkable volumo, which occurred in the middle of the night, and caught the victims unpre.pared. The same district suffered again a week or two ago, it being cabled that the inhabitants' were' taking refuge on: housetops, and that many aged' persons wcro dying, from the effects of exposure.
