In April, Han-kau, at the junction of the Han-kiang and the Yang-tso-kiang, suffered greatly, 2000 porsons being drowned and 700 junks sunk or wrecked. Tho floods on this occasion were due to a suddon freshet of remarkable volumo, which occurred in the middle of the night, and caught the victims unpre.pared. The same district suffered again a week or two ago, it being cabled that the inhabitants' were' taking refuge on: housetops, and that many aged' persons wcro dying, from the effects of exposure.
