RAILWAY TRAFFIC RETURNS.
, The railway traffic returns on tlio Welling. ton-Napier-Now Plymouth section for the four weeks ended May 23, 1908, are gazottcd. In the particulars extracted below the figures for tlio corresponding period of last year are given in parentheses:— ' Passengers.—First-class, .50,837 (39,190): second-class, 184,431 (159,7/14): total, 235,268 (198,374). Parcels, 19,929 (20,313); horses, 548 (501); dogs, 1956 (1338); cattle, 3670 (3857); calves 346 (1885); sheep,. 182,820 (121.523); pigs 8669 (9047); timber, 13,471 tons (12.669 tons) ; minerals, 15,831 tons (18,182 tons). Tho rovonuo was as follows:—Passengers, £23,396 19s. 3d. (£20,552 ss. 3d.): parcels,, luggage, and mails, £4709 12s. sd. (£3795 13s. lid.); goods, £30,455 6s. Bd. (£28,233 16s. 10d.); miscellaneous, £1362 16s. 3d. (£IOOO ss. 3d.); rents and commission,' £588 17s Bd. (£570 ss. 10d.); total, £60,513 12s.* 3d. (£54,152 7s. Id.). /
