Gossani, who is one of thoso arrested in connection with the discovery of a bomb factory in Calcutta, has turned informer, implicating Arabindo Ghose, and others in a rebellious: conspiracy, and in obtaining funds by armed robbery. This, development has caused a sensation in Calcutta. AN'APPEAL TO ARMS. THE "MARTYRS OF.THE MUTINY." ' Calcutta, Juno '23, An inflammatory leaflet is being circulated widely in India. It glorifies "the martyrs of the Mutiny," "and urges a united India to make a triumphal entry into. the ■ world in 1917, crush the alien foe, and avenge the martyrs', blood. It is believed tho leaflet was- composed in England. 3 .
A SCHOLARLY AGITATOR. Arabindo Ghosa is ono of those who were arrested in connection with the bomb discoveries in Calcutta. He has had a brilliant car-' car, was educated in England at St. Paul's School (from which ho won an open scholarship), and proceeded to Cambridge, where ho took a first-class in classics. He passed all the examinations for the Indian .Civil Service, but failed to qualify in riding. On hie return to India ho entered the service of the Gaekwar of Baroda, which ho. left at considerable pecuniary sacrifice in order to- carry on political propaganda, which last year brought him in conflict with the authorities. Shortly after the arrests , it was reported that a confession had been made .by one of the prisoners, Birendranath Ghoose. He admitted that he was a ringleader in a gang which' was determined to assassinate prominent officials. He. described the establishment of tho secret bomb factory and the arrangements for distributing revolvers among his followers. , Ho also described two attempts which wora made to blow up a speaial train in whioh Sir Andrew Frasor, the LieutenantGovernor of Bengal,; and Lady Fraser were travelling, and also an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate the mayor at Chandernagore.
