PAPUA.

EXPLORATION OF THE INTERIOR. By TELEGRAPH —FEES 3 ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. Sydney, June 'i\. Mr. Donald Mackay, brother of Ooloiw) Mackay, has organised an expedition to explore tho interior of Papua. THE GOLDEN UNKNOWN. Under the heading of "An Unknown Land," Beatrice Grimshaw, after a residence in Papua, writes to the "Sydnoy Morning Herald'*:— Papua keeps her secrets, and her hold on the keys is firni. .. . Occasionally—as during my own trip to the Louisiades—some little-known island will yield up treasures of strange oustora and • extraordinary incident, too unbelievable to tell, save on seleot occasions and to picked audienees. But nt the baok of everything, bohind all , the little explored tracks, and the fragments of picked up knowledge, lie tho great mysteries of Papua, untouched and untold as yet. Gold? There is gold-bearing country to unlimited extent "away back"—the miners know where, what it is, and can. guess at much that they do not know—but tho gates are barred, tho great hills close the way. Coal, coppor, opals, topazos, beryl? They are all known to exist, but you may look and long, for you . cannot get at them. Are you eager for unknown plants, trees, flowers, orchids, insects, or animals? You will find them even within the limits of easily-travelled ground, and thero will always be rumours of more and mora "just over there" to tantalise yon and luro you on.
