Mr. 6. •S; Bowles .(Conservative member for Norwood division of Lamboth) moved an amendment to the effect that pensions only bo paid while the'pensioner remains in ; tho United Kingdom. Messrs. Balfour and-A. Chamberlain maintainor! ' that pensioners'ought to bo allowed to go. to places oversea, where their friends livo. ■ •. .'' Mr. Lloyd-Goorgo, Chancellor of the Exchequer,' explained that th'e Government desired that pensions should bo payable on tlio same'conditions as prevailed 'in tho. colonies,: namely, whilo tho claimant, resided in the colonies. Absonco'for'a brief'period would not cause'forfeiture of pension. : The amendment was rojected by a majority of 275.- '
