OBITUARY.
CAPTAIN S. B. HOLFORD. A Press Association telegrap from Napier states that Captain S. B. Holford, ofthe Union Company's steamer AVhaogapo, died this morning, after an illness which had "onlined him to tho hospital for some weeks. Deceased, .who was a son of the lato Captain Holford, for many years harbiJur-iiias-tcr at New Plymouth, was 43 years of ago. Ho leaves a wifo (formerly Mi3s Cunningbam, of New Plymouth) and a son.- His mother, one sister, and a brother (Mr. 11. Holford), rbsidfcin Now Plymouth, another brother is Captain' Ceorge Holford, of the Union Company, and a. sister, Miss Alice Holford, is matron of tho St. Helen's Maternity Homo in Dunedin. Mr. W. Holford, a third brother, Hvqs in Auckland province. Captain Holford joined tho Union Company's sorvico as a third officer in 1893, and steadily worked his way to tho position of shipmaster, his first command being of tho Herald in 1903. Within the past tivo years, ho held command of tlicste.imors Upolu, Corinna, Penguin, Rotoiti, Taviuni, and Takapuna. Captain Holford was in chargo of the Whangape .when, a fortnight ago, he left to go into the Napier Hospital, where he was twice operated upon for an internal complaint. During his long term of. service with the Union Company lie proved himself an efficient and faithful servant, and a hinhly-respcctod officer.'
