WEST COAST NEWS.
(bt telegram.—special correspondent.) Creymouth, June 6. Tho coal output from Westport last week reached a higher tonnage than usual of late, 16,760 tons (562 tons of briquettes) being shipped. Still, with tho' capacity to deal with at least 25,000 tons of coal per week, it was lamentable to notice that tho steamer Den of Ogil camo to port all tho way from Callao, and had to proceed to Noweastlo for a load of tho staplo export article, instead of getting a cargo here. It is seldom that such a number of sailing vessels are to be .seen in port as at present. ' Tho white-wihged fleet is represented by five . vessels, while two more, the barqucntino Speculant, from Melbourne,''and tho barquo Laura, from Wellington, should put in/an appearanco at any time now. The reason for such activity is that, a keen demand exists on tlio West, Coast for Australian hardwood, while in Australia our whitepine is soijght after at tho present time. Trado is btisk in both' commodities, houco shipping matters are looking up. The Pactolus Gold Dredging Company has declared a dividend (tho 47th) of ono shilling, per share.
