INDUSTRIES WEEK.
GOOD DISPLAY ANTICIPATED. EXHIBITIONS AT THE TECHNICAL SCHOOL. Special displays at the Technical School will bo a feature of Now Zealand Industries Week, which will ho celebrated in Wellington from Juno 4 to 10. A committeo of the Industrial Association visited the school last week and' talked over tho projcct with the Diroctor (Mr. W. S. La Trobe). In its report, which was read at last night's -meeting of tho Association, this committee said: It was realised by tho General Committee of tho Association that there might be some manufacturers in the city who would find it impossible to oxhibit their manufactures in •shop windows. This fact was emphasised by Mr. Norton, so tho secretary of the Association interviewed Mr. La Trobe, who kindly undertook to allow Mr. Norton to exhibit his racing boats in tho carpentry department of tho Technical School. Mr. La Trobe is greatly taken with the idea of tho Now Zealand Industries Week, and it is pleasing to record that he is prepared to do all in his power to assist the project 1 , by ltaving tho - Technical School thrown open during tho week, in order to allow visitors to inspect the school, and to see what work is being dono tiiero ■by tho students. An exhibition of ordinary work will bo arranged. An opportunity will be given for the inspection of work in the following subjects, and on the days mentioned: — Design and Crafts, Metal Work, Jewellery, Enamelling, Letter Writing, etc., Illuminating, Wood Carving, Painting, Decorating, and Signwriting.—Thursday, Juno 4, and Tuesday, Juno 9. - - Cookery.—Tuesday, Juno 9. Dressmaking.—Monday, June 8. Carpentry and Joinery.—Thursday, June 4. Practical Plumbing.—Friday, Juno 5, and Monday, Juno 8. Fitting and Turning.—Friday, June 5, and Monday. June 8. Practical Electrical Work.—Thursday, June 1. Thero will also be ono or moro classcs at work in carpentry, olectrical work, and metal work during each day of tho week, Juno 4 to Juno 10. \ Tho report was received by tho Association witli expressions, of thanks to the Technical Education BoanC the director, and the committee. , Other business relating to the Now Zealand Industries Week was dealt with by tho Association, showing that arrangements were well forward. A list of manufacturers who had promised to participate, which was read, was deemed to show that the display would bo a larijo ono and representative of a great many different branches of manufacture. Tho Union Steam Ship Company, Limited, and tho Huddarfc-Parker Proprietary, Ltd., wrote that they could not seo their way to excursion fares for tho Industriec .Week. , It was decidcd to offer prizes to pupils of public i schools and tho Wellington Technical School, up .to tho ago of 15, for essays on any manufacture exhibited during the week. Tho Chairman, Mr. Alister Brown,. Mr. John Smith, .Mr. H. Soaton, and tho secrcj, tary wore appointed a .committee to complete the arrangements for New Zealand Industries Week. ■ Tho secretary stated that ho had had a visit from Mr. Jones, president of tho Industrial Association of Canterbury, who said that Local Industries Week in Christchurch was going to bo a big success. Mr. A. Brown said ho had heard that tho movement in Auckland had fallen through, but tho secretary replied that ho had received official correspondence from tho. Auckland secretary as recently as Monday last. .
