ENTERTAINMENTS.
" opera, house.. "The Heart of a Hero" was again produced at the Opera House last' evening by ,the Edwin' Geach Dramatic Company. To the playgoer, who loves his drama hot and strong, this sample can bo highly" recommended. Villainy stalks rampant through five-sixths of tho play, but there is 110 denying the power of puro innoccnce in tho persons of brave Jem Resdale and Bwpet May Ryder. Mr. Harry, Diver's performance as tho hero is a very tenso study, and so strong i 3 his personality that his declamatory ebullitions and feverish acting are almost oppressive in their reality. Miss Burdotte', Miss . Georgine Temperley, Mr. K. Hunter, and. Mr. Wilton Welch are also satisfactory in tho parts undertaken. THEATRE ROYAL. 1 Good houses continue to patrcniso "Fuller's Advanced Vaudeville" at the Theatre Royal. The chief . performers now appearing are Mr. Charles P. -Bates, an American vocal comedian, the popular Denis Carney, Carl Brasso, the strong man of tho .tight wire, the Marlowe Sisters, and Bryant, the axe swinger, who are only a few among tho many of the artists who are prepared to entertain and amuse. -. .. ORGAN RECITAL. There was a very- excellent attendance last evening'at the organ recital by Mr. Maughan Barnetfc in tho Town Hall. The programme contained a good selection of picces, -.lotabl.v Mendelssohn's "No. 4 Sonata," the four movements of which were submitted. This very fine composition was .much enjoyed. The andante from tho V Surprise" symphony of Haydn was'well received, and tho'organist, also played in rousing stylo the favourite "Festive" march by Henry Smart. Wagner's works represented by. the romanco " Star of Eve" (Tannhauser). The overturo to Auber's, " Masanicilo " was another, item, and a bright pizzicato from the. "Sylvia" ballot (Delibes), the "Hero Song" by Volkmami, and a delightful " Evening Song" (Schutt) completed a most enjoyable recital. " GARRISON BAND NOVELTIES. The Garrison Band has just imported, at considerable expense, quite a number of band accessories, consisting of cuckoo, rooster crow, quail, lark, , polka bells, anvil, popgun, clappers, syren,- etc., with the idea of using them at tho municipal concerts to be given in tho Town Hall during the winter. months. Tho first of these concerts wili be given to-morrow evening, when an exceptionally good programme will bo rendered, which will include the " Grand Naval Fantasia " (descriptive), "A Sailor's Life" (S. Cope). ■
