WELLINGTON STONEMASONS' DISPUTE.
AGREEMENT ARRIVED AT. Tho parties to the Wellington Stonemasons disputo have arrived at an agreement', whicn was tiled yesterday with tho Clerk of Awards (Air. Stubbs;, ioi- the purpose of being embodied in an award of tho Court of Aruitration. Following are iho employers cited:—Wellington Builders' and . Contractors"Association, Thomas Miller, Adelaide Road; Walter Alansfield, Aarori; ■ \V. - Al'UiU and Soil's, lngestro btreet; \Y. J.. Heyier, -Manners Street, and Hickmott and' Sons, Thomdon Quay. ° s It is provided in tho agreement that until such time as tho building trades shall have agreed to a reduction ot. hours of labour , a rull week's work shall consist of fortyfivo hours, five days of 8£ hours r each, and from 8 a.m. until 11.45 a.m. on Saturday. AH journeymen stonemasons shall '• be paid not less than Is. fc'd.. per hour. For tho lull week s work, tho wages shall not bo icss'than rhero shall be no piecework! / Overi tinio shall bo paid for at tho rate of time and a quarter lor tho first , four hours, and time Minda half afterwards, aiid double time on New iear's l)ay, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Good • Friday, Easter Monday, Labour V ? nd , • Sundays." No overtime, shall be worked while compqtent labour is'idle, except m cases of emergency. All stonework required for any building shall bo worked and set by stonemasons employed by the builder or, in tho-event of tne: builder sub-letting the work, tho' subcontractor must supply all material and labour nccessary for working, fixing, and finishing tho work. Cleaning down, pointing' joints, or anything connected with cut stono work which .requires tlie uso ot a. stone-mason's tools shall be dono by masons only. Employers shall erect suitable sheds tor their employees, and provide, boiling water at lunch, tunc for thoso who require it, AVages paid weekly. . A clauso relating to under-rato workers is inserted. Country work 1 is; defined as work performed by a journeyman or apprentice which necessitates.his lodging elsewhere than at ins usual place of abode. \ When 'workmen are reqiired to slesip away, from home an additional allowaiico'of fifteen per cent, shall bo made 'to them. ■ Prefcrcncc to unionists is provided for/. Tho proportion of' apprentices to journeymen shall not exceed ono apprentice to every five journeymen, and the wages 111 respect of'apprentices .shall be as follows:—First year, 10s.second, 15s • third, 205.; fourth,: 255.; and fifth, '305."
