THE PAINTING TRADE AT WANCANUI. DEMANDS OF THE WORKERS. The claims of the Wanganui Painters' Union of Workers,' which -will bo considered in duo courso by the Conciliation Hoard, are, inter alia, as follow: —Hours of labour for painters and decorators shall be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on iivo days of tho. week, and from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturdays from September 1 to April 30, and from 8 a.m. till 4.30 p.m. on fivo days of the week, and from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturdays' from May 1 until August'3l.- Overtimo shall bo paid for as .follows:—From hour'of ceasing work until 8 p.m., time and a quarter; from 8 p.m. until midnight; time and a.half; between midnight and tho ordinary hour for commencing work, double, timo; on Saturdays from tho ordinary timo of closing till midnight, timo and a half; on Sundays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Sovereign's Birthday, and Labour' Day, double time; prior to 6 a.m., double timo; from 6 a.m. till 8 a.m., timo and a half. All journeymen painters, paperhangers, glaziers, grainers, and decorators, and all journeymen working at any, branch cf tho trade shall bo paid not less than Is. sd'. per hour. The proportion of ' apprentices to journeymen employed by. any employer shall not exceed ono apprentice to* every threo journeymen. ■ Following shall bo tho wages in respect of apprentices -.—First year, 6s. 6d. per week; second, 10s.; third, 155.; fourth, 205.; fifth,. 255. ' l'referenco to unionists shall.be granted. A clause relating to underrate workmen is ■ inserted.' Country work is claimed to be work performed at a distance of over three miles from the post office. It is further demanded that no employer shall sub-let work or give piecework to any worker.
