Tli© Morriwoo gelding did not jump too confidently at tho-start, but warmed up to his work, and improved as tho journey progressed. Ho jumped tho second ,to - last hurdle beautifully, and rose at tho last with a lead of about threo lengths, when all of a sudden Pritchard was shot over his head. The jockey made a fino effort to recover, but was thrown'to tho ground. Ho escaped uninjured, though his colours-woro almost torn off. Concussion fell st tho, first hurdle, but Horcock wae unhurt. Tho .'start was a fait' one, but Aborigine commenced in his best' style, and; after shaking off Vasa, ho was not afterwards' headed; Elysium . did not get ''away, .too well,' but' r.ftor going about fifty yards she was running third. She passed Vasa as they swept round tho bend, and appeared to. gain on Aborigine, but tho 'latter was going-easy, and had a couplo of lengths to. spare at the finish. Still Elysium's was a very good performance, and had sho commenec-d a ( little smarter sho would have fully extended Aborigine.' Sistor Anno mado up a,lot of ground during tho race, and was just' out- of a plaoe. : Husbandman 'scarcely ran up to expectations. .... Contender got away badly, but he put. in a fino run in tlio straight, and ran into third position. Do Witto' never got past the middle of. the field, and at tho finish was nearly last. Six horses contested tlio Open Hurdles, for which, Claromont >Vds made favourite, 'l'ho race was responsible for, a couple : of accidents. Just after tho start Pantaloon pulled on to Prospector, and the latter galloped on to tho liind legs of tho black golding. Prospector fell 011 his nose, and Pantaloon had a fetlock broken, and was pulled up.', Prospector continued to race in. tho rear of the field, and got into tho last hurdle', but neither O'Neill nor his mount was injured., Claromont ran to tho' lead half a milo from home, and appeared to have tho raco in hand, but'ho swerved at tho last fence, and Gold Dust got to tho front. Julian mado a great effort on Claremont, and just failed to get up in* time again. Killarney and Oryx wore'in tlio ' front for a milo and a quarter, whore they commenced to-tire, and both finished a long way behind tho first pair. Swimming Belt, Signor, and Tupono did not appear for tho Longburn Handicap. The first-named went sore in his work,' and Tupono was not brought to the meeting. Tho Lark was tho public fancy, and Uenuku was next in demand.' Chatterer was tho least fancied of tho field. Flainen was • turned round when tho barrier flow up, and lost several lengths. Waipaku wont to the lend at tlio'end of two furlongs, and ran right away from the field. The crowd were oxpecting her to collapse in tlio: straight, ' but she ran tlio distance out, and completed • the distanco in what must be Now Zealand ' record time. Jung Billy was always in front I jf the bunch which fallowed Waipaku, hut in j iho last fow strides, 110 succumbed to a dial- ] lengo from -Tangimoana. Tho latter ran ; ier usual honest raco, and must have' regis- ; ;ered really good tirno. Chatterer went well 1 'or about seven furlongs.
