BOUNDARIES -OF KARORI' .AND THE • , CITY. Among other elements of uncertainty in regard to tho mayoral election at Karori is' the proposed alteration of the borough boundaries, which is understood to be under Ministerial consideration. If it is effected without amondmont, a portion of tho borough, including Northland and tho houses along tho main road as far as the tram terminus, will be cut off and added to tho city of Tho necessary formalities aro understood to bo woll advanced, and tho alteration may bo mado almost at. once, in which case It is presumed thht tho mayoral olections, both in tho city : and tho borough, will tako placo according to tho now boundaries. Consequently, thero are about 200 oloctors who do not know, yet whether thoy will have to chooso : ltotwcen tho merits of Mr. Hislop and Mr. Aitken or help to guide; tho destinies of Karori. Oho curious featuro of this proposed.enlargement of tho city is that it would leavo Karori with less than 1000 inhabitants. This is contrary to ono of tho provisions of the Municipal Corporations Act, IDOO, but that, little difficulty was got over by moans of a fow lines in the Reserves and Public Bodies Empowering Act (colhmonly called tho " WashBill "l of last sesakia, .Tho Bill -Kea
put through in'the last hours of tho session'; and did not rcoeive very closo attention in Parliament. It is now understood that the Government is hesitating about tho gazetting of _ tlio Order-in-Council, which would mako Karori an exception to tho general law.
