DISEASED CROPS.
A SINGULAR CAUSE. German scientists who observed in the summisr grain fields a ( peculiar diseased condition, examined the'plants and found no trace of fungus or insect. They formed an opinion that the injury was duo to high temperature at the time of germination, and they tested the theory by pot experiments. Ono sories of pots, kept at a temperature of sdeg. to 7deg. contigrado, produced healthy plants, but another series, at. 20deg.' to 26deg., produced- plants which gave all tho indications of tho disease noted in tho fields.
