FEILDING.
Mr. John Cameron, organising secretary of tho Anti-Asiatic League, arrived in Feilding yestorday. Ho has just formed a League at Fox ton, and will stay in Feilding for a few days with tho object of forming a League here. • ■ That carelessness in tho use of matohes, cigarette butts, etc.; may lead to serious results was exemplified this ,'week .ati t-ho .Ki-wit-ea Bridge. Mr. A. H. Atkinson, president of the Feilding Chamber of Commerce,, while returning from tho, country to Feilding in the evening, noticed, when some distance away, that there was a firo on the bridge, arid,, on' reaching it,"saw that somo person ;had throivii a lighted match or cigar butt or somo, such ' objcct on to tho floor'.'of the bridge; and this, falling into the looso.debris which, fills tho cracks between 1 the iron bark planks, started a fire. There was a good breeze blowing at tho time, and, but. for the arrival of.Mr. Atkinson, the decking of the bridge would certainly, have, been in serious danger of being wholly or partially, destroyed. The Makino. Ldclgo of Druids lias decided to, take part in the Friendly Societies' procession, oil . the 23rd prox. , : Tho Lodges in the No. 11 district have decide,d to present- -13.r0. S. R. Fullbrook, tjio retiring district president, with a P.D.P. collar and jewel, as a mark, of tlio qsteom in which, ho is held, and in appreciation ol : tiio many, valuable services lib'has rendered.. A garden party is a very rare event, in Feilding. They occur " onc.o in so many years." ' ConsMjuently, tho party held yesterday afternoon and evening in Mrs. John Cobbe's grounds, -in. .aid of tho Wesley Church organ fund, attracted a largo crowd. Weather just suited/for a sports' gathering 'was experienced to-day for tho annual meeting of tho Kimbolton arid District Sports Club. ' From - all .parts of the surrounding district-,'from Apiti, Rangiwahia, Waituna, Kiwitea, Cheltenham,• and Feilding visitors came, and a good attendance of ladies mado a pleasant and happy throng of people. The final meeting of the committee which has organised the swimming carnival for Saturday next as a.jmeans of raising funds to help .in tho construction of a cricket ground on the South Street reserve, Feilding, was'held-last- night. Tho secretary, Mr. Iladfield, reported that entries for the carnival had been' recoivcd from fifty-four competitors, and that there were forty entries in some of the events. There was a party of ten. swimmers, including two champions, coming from Wanganui, and it was particu-larly-pleasing to note the 'number of local men who had entered. Boys had also come forward . ill strong fprco, considering that there has nover yet been swimming sports in Feilding. :. ,
