Tlw Engineer, Mr. Roy Harding, reported that the Spur Road contract had been competed. Contracts Nos., 3 and 4 Urovo Koad have been commenced. The timber and girders for the Stonoy Creek bridge, oil tho Bunnythorpe-Ashhurst Road, have been delivered at Ashliurst, and a start will bo made on this work next woek. Tho work or widening the Bunnythorpo Road has been completed, and the' old wooden culverts replaced with .cement' pipes. The rivor beyoiid tho- Mangaono Bridge on the Feilding-Hal-combc Road was reported to requiro widening, very badly at an estimated cost of £IG. On tho Manawatu Gorge, bridge, the bridge ongincier, Mr. H. J. Hayns, reported that i cylinder was' started on Decomber 11, and after it Jiad been sunk to tho depth shown on plan it was found the foundation ivas not solid, and it iras dccidcd, theChairliian of the (Jouuty Council agreeing, to put tho N c,ylindcr down' a further depth of Bft. Ono more gantry has been made ready for oroction. The total, length of tho cylinder now sunk under the bed of tho river was 41ft. Tin. i
The Health Officer, Mr. Morgan O'Brien, reported the notification of cue case of uitcric fovcr and one oi scarlet fever during the month of Dec-cmber, ono at Halcombe and tho other at Kakariki. '

Tho Roads and Bridges Department wrote authorising the expenditure of £1000 ontho Mftnawatu Gorge bridgo contract. The following .transfers were agreed to: — Alox. Ynjo and David Edwards; Trustees of Mr. M'Jvenzio's estate to Lovelock Bros.; to Frederick William Cable. . .The Council confirmed the special order dealing with tho raising, of'a loan of £600 for the purchasoof land 'and the erection of county offices, tho lato being one twohundredth part of a peimy. ■ It was resolved that tonders be invited for the collection of the dog-tax, and that the County Solicitor be instructed to suo for all rates not paid on January 17,
