BRAVE GIRL LOSES HER LIFE
ATTEMPTS TO SAVE A BOY FROM DROWNING. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Masterton, December 27. i A sad drowning accident occurred in' tho Ruaniahanga River this afternoon, in which Hilda Cook, aged eighteen, daughter of Mr. and Mra. A. W. J. Cook, of Wadostown, Wellington, lost hor life. A boy named Godfrey Olapcotfc was in tho river swimming, having on swimming wings. The wings camo off, and CJlapcott wont aftcj- them. Ho.got out of his. depth, and commoncod to sink when Miss Cook, who was bathing with three other children, and who was unablo to swim, went aftor him to try and get him out. When 3ho got beyond hor depth she' sank and was drowned. Another boy named Hunter got Clapcott out of tho water. The body of; tho girl was recovered about threequarters of an hour afterwards. She was on holiday.hero with friends.
