The newspaper "Ironmonger" states that the United States Steel Trust has presented an ultimatum to the Welsh Tinplatc manufacturers, stating that they must either buy monthly 3000 American steel bars or bo "smashed." The Welsh manufacturers refused to comply. Tho "Daily Chronicle" says that if thcro is any reality in tho throat, tho Government should take action. Tlk American Rteol Trust, during the recent slump, took advantage of the opportunity to Hfcuro n controlling interest in the Toiiudrbco Coal, Irou and Railway Company, a rival concern in the Stares. Among its other possessions, tho Steel Trust owns 02,517 acres of cokinc coal, and 20,03!) acres of surface and 18,882 beehive coke ovens, etc., in "Westmorland and Fajrotto Counties, Pa.; 357 by-product coke ovens at Benwood. W., Va., and Sharon and South Sharon, Pα.; 31,90S acres of steam and gas coal lands, etc., railroads, lake vessels, ore docks, natural pis lands, etc.; with working plants too numerous to mention.
