FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE.

THE POSITION IN HOLLAND. Foot- and mouth diseaso has recently developed enormously in Holland, and has unfortunately got quite beyond the control of the Agricultural Department. Tho Department endeavoured, as soon as its presence was discovered, to stop its spread, but it was found to bo useless, and tho diseaso is now being permitted to die out. This will bo a long process, but is held to be tho only course open under tho circumstances. It has been found that 3 per cent, of tho herds aro affected, .and that on the average the victims either recover or die in fourteen days. If a cow recovers from tho diseaso the milk flow is reduced some live litres per day until the end of tho lactation period. Horses seem to bo quite immune from tho disease, but tho human subject is liable to. be affected. ,
