BOWLING.
OPENING OP THE SEASON. Several of , the city bowling clubs opened their greens for the season on Labour Day, and though tho weather during the afternoon was true to tradition (Labour Days are alwavs wet), the best was made of tho happv occasion, which ushers in tho rolling 'bowl. VICTORIA CLUB. _At, the Victoria Club a large number oi visitors of both sexes were present to ; witness the green declared open by Mr. P. Kitto, vice-president. Mr. Kitto said ho was very pleased to see so many ladies ■ present, and lie was deHghted to welcome sn many visitors from other clubs. The .financial position of the club was sound —it was in the hands of men who took as much interest in the club as in their own business. Tlje treasurer was largely, responsible for this satisfactory' state of things, and his efforts had been well backed up by the members, with, the result that there were no arrears' 'of subscriptions and there was a credit at the bank. The limit of membership was 120, which had now been reached, and he was pleased nv one sense, yet. regretted in another that they were unable to admit to membership several gentlemen who wished to join. - It was a pity the pioneors of the club had not provided'for taking in more land, so that they could have taken . everybody into, their arms, but'that was now impossible, though he thought the time must arrive when another cliib would have to be started thereabouts. The vicepresident then called upon Mrs. Kitto to throw up the "jack." ' ' ■ The.following are results of thoplay:—. .
