TRAGEDY ON A RUSSIAN TRAIN. ROBBERS FOILED. STEALING FROM CHURCHES. . By Telegraph.—Association.—Copyright. St. Petersburg, October 9. Armed passengers travelling on tho Dorpat-Walz railway tried to rob a banker who was carrying a largo sum of money. Tho escorting gondarmes opened fire. One robber, two passengors, and ono gendarmp woro killed, and tho banker and a gendarme and several passengers wounded. Tho robbers jumped from the train' and cscapod moneyless. Paris, October 9. Antoino Thomas, a morchant of Cler-mont-Ferrand, has boon arrestod. Ho confessed that ho had been engaged in systematic robbery of antiquarian valuables from French churches. Ho allogos that many of the clergy connived at tho robberies.
