Farewell Social to the Rev. Mr Haslam.

(Contributed.) The Rev. Mr Haslam, who has been in this district for two years, and who has been appointed to the Temuka circuit, was tendered a farewell social in the Methodist Church on Wednesday evening last, when the church was crowded. The proceedings opened with a hymn, after which the Rev Mr McLeod engaged in prayer. Mr C. Smith, who acted as chairman of the proceedings, spoke on behalf of the members of the congr gation, and after mentioning some of the exp i\i ij(••.-; vvnich Mr Haslam had gone u ougn, -. ."hit. they were losing a .vjuuenu m every sense of the word, as, whether in preparation for the pulpit or for the Christian Endeavor Meeting, Mr Haslam was thorough in it all. What would be Cromwell's loss would be Temuka's gain. He wished Mr and Mrs Haslam every success in their new sphere of labor, and prayed that God would abundantly bless them.

The following programme was then gone through, and the different items were duly appreciated:—Euphonium solo, Mr George Wishart; duet (" The Elfin Call,") Mesdames Betts and Morris ; solo (" David before Saul,") Mr Ha3lam ; solo (" He Wipes the Tear,") Mrs McLeod ; solo (" Queen of the Earth,") Mr J. K. Menzies; address, Rev. J. G. McLeod; solo (" A Dream of Paradise,") W. S. Stephens ; duet (" A Sea of Glass,") Miss Thomas and Mr Haslam ; solo (" Pretty White Dove,") Miss Maud Thomas; solo (" Consider the Liliies,") Mrs Betts; solo (" Far Away,") Mr J. Cairney ; duet (" What are the Wild Waves Saying,") Messrs G. Wishart (Euphonium) and T. Marshall (Cornet). Mr Haslam briefly replied, saying that as the time was late he would not say as much as he would have liked. Hovvever, he thanked his own congregation and friends for the kindnesses received, and he would always remember the two happy years spent in Cromwell.

Refreshments were handed round, and after full justice h..ii b.c.; 'Ion" to them the gathering broke up at about 10.45.

The accompanists during the evening were : Mrs John Stephens, Misses Graham (Bannockburn), Murrell, Bowie, and Thomas.

On the motion of Mr S, Stephens, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded all who had in any way helped to make the social a success.
